I Need Coffee - Episode 221 - Weekly BC Review! (August 21, 2026)

1. Hardware / Server Stack Upgrade
   - Splurged on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M70Q (10th-gen i7, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD) as new dev workstation.
   - Previous machine: ~$100 eBay ThinkCentre M910q (7th-gen).
   - Runs VS Code, Visual Studio, AL/BC development, Claude extension, local Whisper model, etc.
   - Tiny PCs idle at 4–8 W → major electricity savings (high local rates of ~50–60¢/kWh). Replacing full desktops saved estimated $50–100/month.
   - Uses Tailscale + Headscale for global access. Blog post available on the setup.

2. Spreadsheet ML in AL/PTE
   - Previously demonstrated and blogged about using Spreadsheet ML inside an AL/PTE.
   - Full code unit shared; agents can reproduce from the blog post.

3. Personal – College Move-In
   - Took Monday off to move older daughter into college (new-student orientation).
   - Highly organized process; athletes unloaded the car in <10 minutes.
   - Campus has ocean/beach views. Younger daughter helped set up the dorm.

4. Major AI / Legal Discussion – 3M Expert Witness Case (404 Media)
   - Lawsuit involving a gas explosion; 3M hired an expert witness (~$90k / $475/hr – normal rates).
   - Plaintiff lawyers spotted AI-generated writing in the expert report.
   - During deposition, obtained ~350 pages of ChatGPT prompts/conversations (public links included). Deposition paused ~3 hours while gathering them.
   - Expert allegedly relied on GPT for ~90% of opinions/report (not just assistive use).
   - Result: expert discredited; raises issues of authenticity of work product.
   - Key takeaway: ChatGPT (and similar) transcripts can be obtained via discovery/subpoena. Lawyers are concerned about their own experts’ AI use.
   - Steve tested the same idea with Claude on a multi-month project:
     - Claude can only reconstruct/summarize longer sessions (not exact original wording).
     - Full export via Claude Teams organization settings produces a large dump of unorganized JSON files (no project/chat relationships, embeds every attached file). His export was already ~48 MB.
     - Assembling usable history is difficult; resulting document was 221 pages of messy content from ~40 prompts.
   - Advice: Treat every prompt as potentially courtroom material. Clean language (“explain like I’m 5”) can be taken out of context. Consider formal data-retention policies with legal counsel. Canceling a subscription to avoid discovery is a bad idea and can itself cause legal trouble. Enterprise plans have better e-discovery/API access; Teams/personal do not.

5. Vibe-Coded PTE Quiz
   - Shared a change-request result that looked wrong (visual clue in AL/Business Central code).
   - Asked chat to spot the issue and its cause (Opus/Claude mistake). Still tracing the sequence of events.

6. Business Central Prospect Discovery Questionnaire
   - Finished Version 3 after months of work (started earlier in the year; V2 in April).
   - Main document reduced from 40 → 27 pages.
   - Full system: main questionnaire + topical sections (CRM, tax, warehousing, manufacturing, etc.) + 24 specialized questionnaires → 493 pages total.
   - Built primarily with Claude (~$20 subscription initially). Positions the process against large consulting-firm frameworks (and notes a third-party service exists at reasonable cost).

7. El Salvador Doug Meetup #3
   - Theme: importance of education, activities, and Business Central career opportunities.
   - Multiple presenters. ERP Academy students (week 5) are progressing well.

8. Licensing Opportunity – Team Member Licenses
   - Discussion with a contact about building a custom enterprise operations app on Business Central.
   - Potential: custom pages/tables may allow Team Member licenses (max ~15 additional tables) instead of full Essentials/Premium. Attractive ~$8–10/month pricing + Microsoft handles hosting/security/auth.

9. Platform Change – PTE Management
   - Upcoming Business Central version moves PTE management into the Admin Center (extension management inside BC will be deprecated).
   - Enables upgrading a PTE in one place across environments.

10. Upcoming Events
    - Partner Vibe 2.0 – Sept 21–23, Provo, UT (discount codes available via steveendo.com).
    - Summit NA – Oct 11–15, Nashville, TN. BC Bash (biggest community party) 9 pm–1 am; Blue Dragonfly is a sponsor; registration required.
    - Dynamics Con Regional 2026: Columbus Aug 25, Montreal Sept 16, Frankfurt Oct 2, Houston Nov 3 (verify dates).

11. CI/CD – Algo for GitHub Frustration
    - Spent significant time learning/configuring it.
    - Pipelines take 30–60+ minutes even for small changes.
    - Planning side-by-side test converting a project to Cosmo Alpaca aiming for <15 min (ideally <10 min) with better caching.

12. Cybersecurity Note
    - Checkpoint researchers found a vulnerability in a Microsoft Defender Windows driver (ring-0 / boot-time component).
    - Microsoft’s position: not a vulnerability because it requires admin rights.
    - Security community disagrees – admin is frequently obtained other ways; this gives attackers a signed EDR-killer path, privilege elevation, and “live off the land” capability. Expected to remain usable for some time.

13. App Testing & Integration Work
    - Complex marketplace app that integrates with a third-party SaaS platform.
    - Requires deep knowledge of the SaaS product (sometimes deeper than the vendor or partners).
    - Most effort is environment setup/demo prep rather than the app code itself.
    - Also starting a new technically interesting BC app.

14. AI-Assisted Sponsor Video
    - Using Claude to create a deterministic process for a BC Bash sponsor video (storyboard, theme, assets, script, timing). Preview frame shown; AI generated essentially everything from prior sponsorship knowledge.

15. Team / Excellence Updates
    - Joselyn – Financials expert (row/column definitions, 13-period, 4-4-5, etc.); explains financials to customers daily.
    - Ronald – Leading Continia Document Capture full-turnkey implementation with a partner; building project plans, training curriculum, config/test guides. Also leading ERP Academy curriculum (now ~5 weeks ahead) and an English skills academy.
    - Fatima – Led the Doug meetup; testing Claude for PMI/PMP-style project management (notes, tasks, plans, reconciliation).
    - David– Data imports and config-package pitfalls.
    - Franklin – PTE change-request release + researching subtle app/BC/Claude bugs (full-stop investigation culture).
    - Daniela – SEO/AIO, website work, and the promotional video.
    - ERP Academy students (week 5) already outperform some partners on basic BC navigation and UI features. Monday calls include Q&A and a Jeopardy-style quiz (idea from Brad). Example questions covered posted sales invoice corrections and identifying vendor goods/services
