I Need Coffee - Episode 226 - Weekly BC Review! (Oct 2, 2026)

1. Smart Fridge Reality Check
Sasung pushed a firmware update in South Korea that completely bricked smart refrigerators — they stopped cooling and ruined food. Another data point that “smart” appliances often create more risk than value.

2. Vibe 2.0 Conference
Drove 700+ miles each way from Los Angeles to Provo for the Partner Nio conference. Excellent candid, non-product-focused discussions among Microsoft partners, ISVs, and marketing service providers. Tanya and Steve presented their zero-budget internal marketing approach (website, analytics, content) and why many firms will still choose to outsource.

3. Quality Experience Gap
Discussion on factory stereo upgrades versus modest aftermarket solutions (e.g., Crutchfield speakers). Many people have never experienced meaningfully better audio, coffee, or noise-cancelling headphones — so they have no frame of reference for the difference. Once you know better, ordinary becomes harder to tolerate.

4. LinkedIn Connection Requests
Opened connection requests and received 47 from mostly unknown sales/marketing profiles. Still searching for a compelling reason to accept cold outreach at scale. Feels like a different flavor of spam.

5. Basic SQL Knowledge Gap
On a Dynamics GP customer call, a technical/DBA-type participant asked what `BEGIN` means in a SQL transaction. If you touch production SQL Server, foundational transaction knowledge should be expected.

6. AI as Memory & Research Assistant
Spent time searching for the wrong customer context. Perplexity pieced together subtle clues and correctly redirected him to a partner using one of his free tools — saving significant time and frustration.

7. Emerging Transportation / Logistics Focus
Multiple customers in 3PL, trucking, and brokerage are pulling the team deeper into TMS integrations (Triumph Pay already exists; others under evaluation). The industry is systemically messy and highly customized.

8. Techfluent Call to Action
Reconnected with Techfluent graduates at Vibe. Bright, motivated people who completed training and internships but struggle to break into Dynamics/Power Platform roles without 3+ years of experience. Looking for partners or end-user organizations willing to offer trainee/intern opportunities with mentoring.

9. Claude Desktop + Local MCP Surprise
Tanya (non-developer) demonstrated that Claude Desktop in chat mode can call local MCP servers. She is effectively using it as “Claude Code for Power BI” — editing PBIP files, committing to Git, etc. Prompted Steve to reinstall and explore capabilities he had previously abandoned for security reasons.

10. Major Win: Claude Chrome Extension + Claude Code CLI
Claude can now control a real browser via the Chrome extension when launched with the appropriate flag. Full Business Central automation: deploy, create companies, configure email, navigate pages, test, debug in loops — with zero intervention overnight. Dramatically superior to previous Playwright attempts. Game-changer for BC development and testing.

11. Project Dashboard for Long-Running AI Work
Inspired by (and improving on) a “stupid” idea seen online. Claude vibecoded a persistent multi-phase project dashboard (phases A–V with tasks and review gates). Provides instant situational awareness when returning to complex work after days or a week. Can be published as a shareable Claude artifact.

12. Cybersecurity Notes
    - Defense Manpower Data Center breach impacting records of ~2.7 million living and nearly 300,000 deceased individuals.
    - Over 1,331 Linux kernel CVEs published in a short period (September alone was extraordinarily high). Active triage is occurring, but volume is striking.

13. DIY Auto Economics Continue
Rear brake job already paid for all tools. Front rotors + pads ordered (~$225 parts). Dealer equivalent would have been significantly higher. Oil changes remain cheaper at the dealer package price when time is factored in.

14. Team Progress
    - Fatima: Cybersecurity remediation in final stages (Conditional Access, MFA, Intune, BitLocker, Defender) and rolling out to El Salvador laptops. Christmas festival toys purchased.
    - Franklin: Cleaned up a dozen latent bugs in a marketplace app and preparing a new release.
    - Daniela: Producing BC Bash sponsor videos in CapCut and continuing website maintenance via Claude Code.
    - Ronald: Continia Document Capture + ERP Academy + English Academy.
